The illustrations are intended to express the philosophical content of the novel and to quietly support the reader in finding the questions raised by the book:
What is true bravery?
What is the difference between real bravery and drifting with events?
Does moral bravery defeat the instinct to live? Are we more than instinct beings?
For me, illustrating fairy tales means total freedom of tools, colours and shapes. The examples below show that watercolour, ink, linocut, all add an exciting and unique atmosphere to a fairy tale.
